General Practitioner Fundholding in England - Report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (Paperback)

The evidence presented in this report suggests that the direct involvement of general practitioners in health-care purchasing has led to improvements in the services provided for their patients and made fundholders more aware of the cost implications of their spending decisions. Accountability could be enhanced by a more rigorous evaluation by family health services authorities of fundholders' plans to use savings, and the introduction of fund management plans as a basis for monitoring fundholders' performance.
