One of the main functions of the Intellectual Property Liaison Unit created by MAFF is to manage the exploitation of intellectual property once it has been identified. However, while the Unit has performed a useful role in raising awareness of intellectual property issues, it has not actively managed its commercial exploitation. The Department plans to review their intellectual property policy and to conduct a cost-benefit analysis by May 1995.
