The whispering streamlet flickered in the fight Of tapers, and from neighboring fields, bedight With flowers, came an odor, faint and rare, Mingling with that from flowers in the hair Of beauteous women; and the breezes seemed To bear in fitful gusts, from stars that gleamed, A rich, celestial fragrance. Oft would this scented gust from out the skies Bestir the silken curtain, and large, languid eyes Beheld it; and, reclining at their ease, The beauteous dames, seduced by fluttering breeze And by that spangled firmament above, Fell, one and all, to longing thoughts of love.
