They can be used as a traditional underpainting on all surfaces, including canvas, paper, cloth, wood, stone, and primed metal. The gesso also acts as a highly opaque and ultra-matt finish acrylic paint medium.Holbein Coloured Gesso is highly pigmented, with an extremely smooth texture. It can be mixed with any acrylic paint or medium and finishes to a matt surface. It may be overpainted with water-based or oil-based colours or pastels.
