To fay, that Ceres nouriihes the Harvest and brings it to Maturity, is to suppose that the Eaith has been cultivated. Besides, perambulare can never signify any Labour fo severe as the Plowing of Bullocks j. for this Ver.b, in its proper Signisication, can only mean an easy Motion, free from pain amd Trouble. 18. Almaque Faufittas.' This Goddess was the Grace of Heaven, Faventia divitia; by which was understood a pure Air and wholesome Showers; aqua salubrts, c f Jew's aura. Lefevre, 20. Culpart metuit fides. The Verb metuere does not mean an Impossibility of any Fact, but an attentive Apprehension, and exact Circumspection that it shall not happen. Gratia rixarum metuensy The Graces who avoid all Occasions of Quarrels. Castitai metuens alterius viri, is a conjugal Fidelity, which is alarmed at whatever attempts to corrupt it; and Fides qua culpari metuit-, is an Honest/, which is ever upon its Guard against being seduced. San. Smit with as faithful and as fond Desires, Impatient Rome her absent Lord requires. Sase by thy Cares her Oxen gra2e, . And yellow Ceres clothes her Fields: The Sailor plows the peaceful Seas, And Earth her rich Abundance yields, While nobly conscious of unsullied Fame, ...
