I recently bought this machine for art purposes (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc) and it does not disappoint. The boot time is exceptional (on the count of 5 I was in) and shutdown time is almost instantaneous. Windows 8 is a beautiful OS although, coming from a Windows Phone 8 user, that might be slightly biased. The upgrade to 8.1 enhances the machine even further. The touch pad is responsive and smooth and the gestures work really well. The battery life is really good, but again, my previous machine had to be plugged in at all times so anything seems good in comparison. It came with a free HP laptop bag, really good quality and totally unexpected. I wondered why the box was so large. The sound quality from the speakers, while not the best, is really really good for a laptop. Headphones enhance the sound significantly. All in all, if you are on a tight budget but need a good solid machine, I highly recommend this one.
