Not illustrated. 1887 Excerpt: ...is removed by the owner of varieties not yet on the market, or by the Executive Committee, I will not use nor allow to be used such plants for the purpose of propagation, nor will I dispose of or allow said varieties to pass out of my hands with my knowledge or consent." You will observe'that this work was organized under the management of this Society and Board of Trustees of Purdue University jointly, and the first question that presented itself was, where are the necessary funds coming from with which to begin operations? By an act of the last Legislature the Society was compelled to pay for the printing of its annual report for 1885 out of its own funds, consequently it was able to do nothing toward furnishing us aid. However, by careful management on the part of the University authorities, and through the kindness of several nurserymen and originators, we were enabled to start in a small way. So far as orchard fruits are concerned, our attention has been directed mainly toward the Bussian fruits, believing that among these we shall find many desirable varieties suited to our climate. Accordingly early last spring a bill of trees was ordered from Prof. J. L. Budd, of Iowa, which was received and distributed among the stations keeping specimens of each variety at the University. Mixed lots of trees and small fruit plants were also purchased from Albertson & Hobbs, E. Y. Teas, Matthew Crawford and J. T. Lovett, of New Jersey. In addition to these we have received donations of plants and trees for trial, from the following gentlemen: A. J. Caywood, Marlboro, N. Y.; J. B. Moore, Concord, Mass.; Geo. L. Miller, Stockton, Ohio; J. A. Foote, Terre Haute, Ind.; S. Thomas, Marion, Ind.; Henry Young, Ada, Ohio; S. H. Beckner, Lafayette, Ind.; Peter M. Gi...
