Tho writer of the Reminiscenees, by a poetical license, is supposed, in a part of tho following remarks, to havo paid a visit to Magnolia. Here we are in the City of tho Dead. Here we aro foreed to forget all those cares and anxieties that perplex us through life. Hero we must bury all those jealousies that fret and annoy us; for horo all passions are subdued--all voices are stilled. How awful is this solitudol How profound is this silenee I surrounded by the memorials of perishable mortality. Theso verdant slopes--this green 70 award, so pleasant to the eye--those beautiful shcets of water--cannot disguise the silence that environs us on every side. Tho profundity of the solitude It is many years sinee we visited Magnolia. It was tho period of its consecration, when tho orator of tho daj-, in the strains of a touching eloquenee recalled the images of death, himself on the verge of the grave What would ho say now, if his spirit could be reimbodied, at contemplating tho deseeration with which it has been visited But wo thought wo could not present a moro truthful picture of its present condition after its deseeration, than from tho hand of its present president, who was one of its founders, and who had been an unwilling witness of that deseeration. We, therefore, requested Frederick Richards, Esq., to draw up an authentic statement of tho cireumstanees, and to whom wc stand indebted for tho following correspondenee.
