He was one of the pioneers, in the early 1960s, in the development of science policy studies and he has, in recent years, been equally pioneering in his work on social intelligence, which he carried out both in Sweden as well as in several developing countries. The essays were written to honour Steven Dedijer on the occasion of his 75th birthday.
