It takes its name from Waverley Abbey, whose ruins are within the district (unlike local wandering side Waverley Cricket Club, who are named after the Waverley Arms pub in Farnham and who have used the name since 1952).It was recently voted, in a Channel 4 poll, the 4th best place to live in the UK .
