This is the most complete book on self-sufficiency I have ever come across, and has stood the test of time really well. As mentioned before, some of the techniques have a more European focus, although they can be adapted for the South African climate quite easily. There is a lifetime of learning contained within the pages of this book - I cannot recommend it highly enough...

I simply love this book. Even though it is based on vegetable and fruit cultivation for the Northern Hemisphere, it is easy enough to use it here in South Africa. I return to this book time and again. It has information from cheese and wine making, beer brewing, animal rearing, basket weaving, sea food, food from the wild, building a house, etc. It is a magnificent book written by a very wise man.
