This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1894. Excerpt: ... OUR WONDERFUL BODIES CHAPTER I. INTRODUCTORY 1. Where is the boy or girl who does not like a true story? We are now going to study something that is more interesting than any story we have ever read, and it is all true. 2. Did we say study? Yes, we did; and that is just the word we mean. People study that which interests them, and interests them on account of its use or beauty, or the wonderful perfection of each and all of its parts. 3. No one knows exactly what electricity is; but people who are interested in it study it, and it has been studied faithfully during many years. That is why we have to-day the telegraph, the telephone, electric-lighting, and many other uses of electricity. 4. One who loves flowers dearly will study them for very love of them, or for their beauty if for no other reason. 5. Henry Ward Beecher said, "Flowers are the sweetest things God ever made and forgot (?) to put a soul into " do you think God forgot to put a soul into them? He never intended them to have so wonderful a possession. He has given that to us. 6. And now we are ready to know what we are going to study; what it is that is so full of interest to us. It is the human body; the body which our souls inhabit. 7. If you are asked to tell what your body is, you will probably say, "It is my head, my chest, my arms and hands, my legs and feet." You do not mention your heart, your liver, or your lungs. Because you cannot see them you do not mention them; but I assure you they need more care, and are in some ways more wonderful, than the parts you can see. Have you ever thought how wonderful all of these parts are? 8. It is time for us to learn all about them, how delicate and perfect they are, how necessary they are, how important it is that we take the best of care of th...
