At the same time of the year, a number of people still gather under these fine avenues; but, the pilgrimage now does not exist, and this annual walk is consecrated, under the name of Longchamp, to decide the grand question of the summer fashions. Boulogne, Saint-Cloud, whose palace, built by Hardouin Mansart and Le Pautre was the ordinary dwelling in the summer season of the queen Marie-Antoinette, of Napoleon, and the ancient royal family; its fine waterfall and its delicious park, which astonish every one, no doubt you will go and see. It was here that Henry III fell by the poniard of the fanatic Jacques Cle"ment. Sevres, a small town on the left bank of the river merits also a few moments of attention. The royal manufactory of china, of which the admirable products have now nn. entirely lost. Sevres also possesses a manufactory of coloured earthenware and another of enamel. Auteuil, on the skirts of the bois de Boulogne, where a number of charming villas are grouped. There Moliere, Boileau, Racine, Lafontaine, Chapelle formerly had country houses. Recently, Gerard, the painter of the entrance of Henry IV into Paris, came there to pass his summers; and at the sight of this little village, the friends of the celebrated artist will not remember without emotion, the evenings spent so agreeably in his society and amidst the display of such a variety of talents. A few minutes after, we reach Passy, situated on a hill which has a view of the river; the salubrity of the air which you breathe-and the magnificent view which you enjoy bring every summer to this charming village a number of the inhabitants of Paris.
