Space Safety Regulations and Standards (Electronic book text)

Concept and Market,
It is proposed to create an in-depth reference on the regulations and standards of space safety. This book will be sponsored by the International Association for the Advancement of Space Safety (IAASS). It will draw on the expertise of the world's leading experts in this field and provide a comprehensive reference book for aerospace engineers in industry, space agencies and consulting firms, and will also be suitable for use as a reference for senior and graduate level courses. In terms of sales the market will be aerospace and high technology companies, space agencies, consulting firms and the academic market in that order of importance.
This title follows the "Saftey Design for Space Systems" that we are publishing with the IAASS due out in March 2009. Space Safety is designed as a complementary title and expected that customers of the first book will also buy this title. As with that title there is interest from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Japanese Space Exploration Agency (JAXA) plus the other space agencies around the world, providing a key market and can be expected to commit to buy several hundreds of the handbook, possibly on a pre-publication basis, to be explored as part of the project development phase.
Under the auspices of a joint campaign with IAASS a comprehensive marketing plan to reach aerospace corporations, consulting firms, research institutes and universities around the world will be devised.
Overview
There is no other book that currently addresses the regulatory and normative challenges that the space industry is facing today. These challenges must be met if the Space Industry is to continue to grow and mature into a self-sustaining commercial basis - especially post-national space agency support. Certainly, current worldwide financial troubles portend a significant cut in space budgets. This type of book helps the industry wade through these issues and move towards a more sustainable industry that is not as dependent on national funding.
The biggest draw of this book is that it puts into one place a lot of currently disconnected information that is primarily found in myriad individual reports and papers across the world. The industry is now at the cusp of a very large commercialisation and thus requires the necessary checks and balances (i.e., the regulatory and standards arenas) put into place for the industry to mature.
The intent of this Space Safety Regulations and Standards book is thus to address each of the elements of space safety in a consolidated and authoritative book that is prepared by individuals with proven experience and expertise in this field.
* For the first time, have-to-hand one definitive reference book for the field of space safety
* Understand the how and why of key regulations and standards formation with explanations of their necessity and case studies to illustrate their application
* Get the global insight of experienced leaders in the space safety field on the regulations and standards relating to space safety
