Backbone (Paperback)

A tongue is sharp enough to cut deep down to the bone. The internal bleeding can make you anemic. Healing is what you want. You call out, "Have mercy " but no one hears your weakened, raspy voice. But you pray with every breath, trying not to choke on the poisons that fill you. Warmth surrounds you and His presence is felt. A beam of light encircles your fingers and permeates the bone to its marrow. You realize that the mind can be taught to block out the demons. The body can be used as a symbol of faith. The soul can feed the spirit. You survived. God has appointed you as one of his messengers.
