John Barton Hack (2 July 1805 - 4 October 1884) was a settler in South Australia, businessman and farmer. Hack was born in Chichester, England to Stephen Hack and the educational writer Maria Hack (n e Barton) and educated at Southgate, Middlesex before going into the leather trade, building up a business in Sussex. On 9 July 1827, Hack married Bridget Watson. After an illness which affected his lungs, he was advised to move to a warmer climate. He travelled to Launceston, Tasmania with his wife, six children and younger brother on the Isabella, where he spent a month purchasing livestock and equipment, which he then transported to South Australia.
