The author studies developments in international economic relations through a detailed examination of three South Asian countries -- India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. She first presents the general economic indicators of the three countries and compares them to global indices. In the next three chapters, the author presents the salient features of each country's economy, particularly trade and industrial performance. She then outlines these countries' developmental policies, resource bases, export potential and import needs. Finally, Mrs. Sood discusses the potential of existing mechanisms for regional economic cooperation. The author concludes that developing countries must strike a balance between fulfilling the urgent requirement of internal socio-economic development, and making their exports competitive in the face of fierce global competition.
