Camp (Paperback)

'The gay summer camp romp of my dreams' - Cale Dietrich, author of The Love Interest

Sixteen-year-old Randy Kapplehoff loves spending the summer at Camp Outland, a camp for queer teens. It's where he met his best friends. It's where he takes to the stage in the big musical. And it's where he fell for Hudson Aaronson-Lim - who's only into straight-acting guys and barely knows not-at-all-straight-acting Randy even exists.

This year, though, it's going to be different. Randy has reinvented himself as 'Del' - buff, masculine and on the market. Even if it means giving up show tunes, nail polish and his unicorn bedsheets, he's determined to get Hudson to fall for him.

But as he and Hudson grow closer, Randy has to ask himself how much is he willing to change for love. And is it really love anyway, if Hudson doesn't know who he truly is?

Reviews

I read this as soon as it came and could not put it down. It was funny, touching, and above all honest. I am sure we all felt at one point that inner fight of being who we are meant to be. What makes us feel like who really are that makes us happy. That is perfectly described in this book. I wish I went to a place like camp Outland and had these kind of experiences that makes us see the world not everyone gets to see. But thanks to Camp it’s the next best thing. The characters were amazing and very thought out. It was a breath of queer fresh air just imagining the beauty of different people sharing our queer umbrella. As an adult reading a YA book seems a little weird. But I am so thankful these kind of stories exist. Because if there young people out there fighting that inner struggle of what it means to be gay or the wrong/right kind. You find yourself saying that doesn’t exist. There is no wrong or right. Just being yourself in any capacity that makes you happy. I hope readers take away that message if anything else.
