galleon of the Portuguese Navy, built in the Colony of Brazil in
the 17th Century. It was built in Rio de Janeiro, on Galeo Point,
close to the present site of the Galeo beach, on Governador Island.
According to the periodical Mercurio Portuguez, it was considered
to be the biggest ship of her time.The first portion of the name of
Rio de Janeiro/Galeo-Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport is
a reference to a beach close to the airport. The beach in turn got
its name from the galleon Padre Eterno, which was built at this
location.
