Constituted on 1-4-1920. It is an important trading town in West Godavari district and is in proximity with other trading towns such as Bhimavaram, Eluru, Tanuku and Narsapur. Palakol's population is about 80,000 (palakol mandal population included) ) and is well recognized for its surrounding fertile lands. Both Telugu and English are spoken here.
