Preis Der Diana (Paperback)

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Preis der Diana, sometimes referred to as the German Oaks, is a Group 1 flat horse race in Germany which is open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run at Dusseldorf over a distance of 2,200 metres (about 1 mile and 3 furlongs), and it is scheduled to take place each year in early August. The event was established in 1857, and it was initially held at Tempelhof. Its distance was originally set at 2,000 metres. The race was transferred to Hoppegarten in 1868, and with the exception of a short spell at Grunewald (1918-22), it remained there until 1944. The event was not contested in 1945 or 1946, and it was staged at Dusseldorf in 1947. It began a long period at Mulheim in 1948. The European race-grading system started to include German races in 1972, and the Preis der Diana was classed at Group 2 level. Its length was extended to 2,100 metres in 1973, and then to 2,200 metres in 1977.
