He previously played for the Wests Tigers in the National Rugby League (NRL). Hanbury primarily plays at full-back and can also operate as a half-back. He played junior football with Illawarra Wests. Although he was expected to make his debut for the Crusaders against Wigan Warriors on Friday 5th February at the DW Stadium, visa issues made him unavailable until the April 11 game versus Wakefield Wildcats.
