According to the 2007 Outline of Ascomycota, the placement of the genus in this family in uncertain. The Cucurbitariaceae are a family of fungi in the order Pleosporales. Taxa are widespread in temperate regions and are necrotrophic or saprobic on woody plants. The Pleosporales is the largest order in the fungal class Dothideomycetes. By some estimates it contains 23 families, 332 genera and more than 4700 species.
