He was the Libertarian Party candidate for the United States Senate from North Carolina in the 2004 general elections. Bailey faced Democrat Erskine Bowles and Republican Richard Burr in the 2004 Senate election, earning about 1% of the popular vote.Bailey is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After graduating high school, he attended a Mormon seminary but did not graduate.Bailey served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.During his lifetime, he has worked as a construction worker, an independent roofing contractor, and ultimately a farmer.
