Spectrum Blue (Electronic book text)

Bruce Halberstrom, a young, upwardly mobile executive, is severely debilitated after being struck down by a hereditary aneurysm. While undergoing a lengthy period of convalescence at an institute in White Plains New York, he receives a visit from his mother-a recovering alcoholic-who has been absent from his life for twenty years. She brings a mysterious letter written many years before by a man called Rafael who accompanied Halberstrom's father into a remote region of the mountains of Chiapas in southern Mexico. The letter foretells the onset of Halberstrom's stroke, and subtly suggests the possibility there is purpose behind the event that has profoundly changed the course of Halberstrom's life. To discover the hidden truths surrounding the events leading to his father's death many years before when in the company of the letter writer, Halberstrom must make a difficult journey to the settlement where Rafael still lives with his family. Reaching a level of physical strength that will barely see him through the ordeal to follow, Halberstrom reaches his destination, to find himself in the company of Rafael and his beautiful granddaughter Llana. The three of them then set out on a trek into the mountains that will bring experiences that will stretch Halberstrom's preconceived ideas of the physical world to their limit.
