Danny Reed was a genius who was raised by his Aunt after the death of his parents when he was a baby. He was also an idealist who enlisted into the United States Navy, thinking he would be able to make a difference in the world. Once in, he became a hospital corpsman and volunteered for duty with a United States Marine Corps unit that was being deployed overseas to Vietnam.
