, , ,
"SimNerv" is an interactive computer program for simulating the frog sciatic nerve experiment required of students in physiology courses. It is suitable for all students of medicine, biology and veterinary medicine who have to perform the sciatic nerve experiement in the course of their studies. The software is structured as follows: "Wetlands" - a light-hearted introduction by means of six frog images and calls; "Video dissection program" - digital video tapes demonstrate the dissection of the sciatic nerve from decapitation to nerve excision, consisting of six parts - decapitation, dissection of legs and pelvis, skinning, dissection of lumbosacral plexus, removal of coccygeal fat, and isolation and excision of nerve; and "Virtual physiology lab" - this is the core of the program - users can perform all standard experiments on the summation action potential of the peripheral nerves in realistic laboratory surroundings. This CD-ROM version includes "Wetlands", the video sequence of frog dissection, and the "Virtual physiology lab", for both Macintosh and IBM PCs, containing all: handbook and lab course licence. CD-ROM versions for Macintosh (full and tryout) - PC requirements are: Macintosh 68040 recommended (also runs on 68030 or Power PC microprocessors), at least 8 MB free main memory, 40 MB free hard disk capacity, CD-ROM drive and RGB monitor (640 x 480 pixels).
