Single Case Research Designs - "Physiotherapy Theory and Practice" Special Issue (Paperback)

The papers collated in this Special Issue have been produced by practising clinicians rather than established research workers. The approach adopted indicates that it is possible to evaluate everyday practice in an objective manner in a variety of clinical situations. The authors have presented examples from a number of different clinical areas: outpatients, community care, neurological rehabilitation and the intensive care unit. They suggest that there is a need to establish a more objective database in physiotherapy if any strong claims are to be made about the different therapeutic techniques that are standardly employed.;The authors argue that group studies are difficult to implement and that the results may be difficult to evaluate. They suggest that the small N approach is a useful method of establishing generality of findings in addition to answering some of the criticisms of simple AB designs applied to a single case. One of the studies included in this issue illustrates the use of small N designs.
