This book provides an overview of firm growth phenomenon and its determinants of Spanish manufacturing and service firms. Firm growth is a central topic to the micreoeconomics of the firm and has generated a huge literature. This book succeeds is addressing and issue of considerable tradition and significance in economics but also sheding light on that topic. Through the research, the author remarks two holes in the literature. First, the almost exclusive focus on manufactures and the lack of evidence on service industries. Second, the neglect of geographic space on the analysis of firm growth. This study makes five contributions that are: 1) to make a complete review of the literature on Gibrat's Law and persistence; 2) to apply an extensive and exhaustive panel data set of Spanish manufacturing and service industries from 1996 to 2002; 3) to explore the differences between manufacturing and service industries; 4) to analyse the determinants of firm growth (including the territorial dimension); 5) to analyse the persistence of firm growth.
