I believe it was the first time during the lives of these elegant girls that they were ever so treated I Had Mr. Knight been the husband of a woman of birth and education, I should probably have experienced a more polished reception: but, alas I shall make no comment. I returned to the inn. During my absence the room had been engaged; and, to add to my sorrow, the bill was presented, amounting to eight shillings. They begged that I would send it back from York, at the same time informing me that the mail-coach would set out in about an hour from another inn.
