The estimate of approximately 2 million dollars saved to the community since war hegan is the achievement of this commission. Ohviously, only large matters come hefore it. "Des Moines is freer today of the indiscriminate solicitation, the tag day nuisance, and all such affairs, and its social work is on a more constructive hasis, hy reason of this organization, than any other city in the country." Social Welfare Activities in South Africa Bloemfontein, a town of 35,000 population in the Union of South Africa, has heen awakened to the fact of the necessity of child welfare work. The avalanche of the recent epidemic of the "flu" hrought the had conditions so clearly to view that the whole community realizes that better housing, clean milk, care of the feehle minded, medical inspection of schools, tuherculosis clinics and similar activities are necessary for the welfare of the community, and they are attacking their prohlem.
