All bolt heads, nuts and threads shall be of the United States standard sizes. Sec 214. While the wall castings are being placed, the extension pieces shall be bolted to the wall castings, and the guides to the extension pieces or wall castings, as may be the case, and the gates set in the guides, and these parts shall be kept thus assembled until the wall castings are firmly held in the masonry. The wall castings shall be secured to the masonry by wrought iron anchor bolts of shape and length suitable for bedding in concrete. Sec 215. The operating stands shall be securely bolted Setting. operating to the floor with anchor or through bolts. Where the stands stands. rest on floor plates the holes for the bolts shall be drilled after the stands have been set and properly lined up. Sec 216. Each sluice gate shall be tested in the shop Tightness, and made water tight under the hydrostatic head on the center of the gate specified in Section 193, on each side of the gate. After the gates and operating stands have been set complete, and after the gates have been subjected to water pressure, should any gates be found to leak, they shall be made water tight by the Contractor at his own expense. Sec 217. All the iron work shall be thoroughly cleaned cleaning and painted before rusting begins and before leaving the painting, shop, with two (2) coats of high grade asphaltum varnish or other approved coating. During construction all parts of the gates shall be covered and protected from mortar droppings, wet concrete or other adhering substances.
