T TAVING made a few remarks concerning the favour of God, and that life which is in it, we now proceed to confider, in what particular refpefts his favour may be termed our life. And we apprehend it may juftly be faid to be the caufe, the objeft, the rule, and the end of life to a good man. j. The favour of the Moft High is the caufe of life. The apoftle James tells us, " that every good gift, and every perfeft gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights." Everyi natural endowment and accomplifhment is derived from his favour, and much more that grace which makes us alive to him. This is the bleffed produft of divine and diftinguiftiing love. In our natural D 3 eftatc ..,..,,:;.... eftate we are dead in trefpaffes and fins, and if we are brought out of that dreadful condition, into a flate of fpiritual life, it is not owing to any thing in ourfelves, but to the favour of God. Thus the apoftle Paul taught the Ephe/ian converts, " God who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in fins hath quickened us together with Chrift; by grace are ye faved." The important change fo abfolutely necef- fary to our prefent fafety and final happinefs, is cfFefled by his power, in confequence of his abundant mercy.
