As a Rapid Evaluation and Correction Team, Air Force Captain Tony Kirkland and his teammate, Sergeant Darren Parker, know their job is twofold: regardless of circumstances, keep the Minuteman missile force, which is aimed at Soviet targets, on alert and ready to go; and at the same time be a role model in their community. In pursuit of these goals, these highly patriotic individuals endure a series of hardships, from a helicopter crash on the way to a missile site, to an attack on a nuclear weapon convoy Tony is commanding, to climbing into a silo where a missile is trying to launch itself and shutting it down, to the destruction of a test missile that has gone off course and headed for San Diego. But the hardships give way to elation when, after a boating accident, Darren refuses to give up and, in the end, saves a little girlas life.
