HESE pages on hypno-suggestion as a therapeutic agent, were written by request, and at irregular intervals, after my return from a two years' clinical study of nervous and mental diseases, principally under Professor Bernheim in Nancy and Professor von Krafft-Ebing in Vienna, to whom I here reiterate my grateful appreciation of the advantages thus afforded. The purpose was to give a succinct idea of the present status of practical psychic therapeutics, as based on the observation of clinical facts. If, with no other claim, I have succeeded in this, I trust that these pages may also, in their present form, still further serve that purpose, and, therefore, I dedicate them to all who are earnestly interested in the application of psychic processes to physical and mental disease.
