During the month of July, dealers returned to the factory for full credit over $10,000 worth of repair parts. About one-fifth of these represented a practical loss, because the parts either have been superseded by later interchangeable designs or are of a kind which makes it highly improbable they will ever be called for. For instance, one part was a rumble seat cushion. In addition to parts carried by dealers and which may be returned to us, if never used, it must be remembered that we maintain an immense supply of parts at the factory in order to be able to fill any need instantly. We assume this investment and liability in order that the dealers may at all times be able to provide customers with any necessary repair part. It is an important part of Packard service to supply the user of the car with extra parts without delay. Dealers can help us to sustain the efficiency of this division by co-operating with our own Service Department in the selection and maintenance of their repair parts stocks. This means careful watching of requirements in order to keep at all times a good supply of the parts that are most needed without tying up parts which may never be called for and which may be returned to the factory in large quantities. The Service Department is able to assist all dealers in regulating their individual stocks of repair parts. Close co-operation works to the advantage of everybody concerned. Alvan Macauley.
