Having become firmly convinced that the destiny of the blind rests entirely upon the breadth of their intelligence and the strength of their character, we are earnestly laboring to provide for our pupils such advantages and opportunities as will enable them to gain these inestimable qualities. For the attainment of this end we leave nothing undone. While we pay due heed to the valuable lessons taught by the history of pedagogy and bring within the reach of the children and youth entrusted to our care the experience of the past and the best products of the human mind, so that they may profit by these, we try at the same time to give them a broad view of the world about them and to make them responsive to all that is vital in the thought and life of today. For it is from the ranks of persons educated and trained in this way that will come the strong men and women, who will serve both as examples to their fellow-sufferers and as active agents in leading these to a higher plane of social dignity, moral excellence and economic success. A brief review of the work which has been done during the past year in the different departments of the institution, in accordance with the above named principles, is in order here.
