This book is a manual of emergency first aid for flight attendents,
and it provides step-by-step guidelines for the diagnosis and
management of emergency situations which are likely to be
encountered in flight. The book begins with a section on the
structures and properties of the atmosphere, and on the cabin
environment. This is followed by a section on basic physiology,
providing the background for an understanding of many medical
problems which could arise.;The main part of the book is concerned
with emergency first aid - how to diagnose the problem and what
action should be taken. Diagnostic checklists are provided to help
guide the flight attendant through the various possibilities, and
clear instructions are given as regards treatment. An advice to
Captain section is also included. Many of the procedures are
illustrated with photographs taken in the aircraft cabin.;Some
flight attendants have undergone Advanced Medical Training, and are
able to administer drugs and use automatic defibrillators. A
chapter is devoted to AMT, and also to how sudden death should be
dealt with. A final chapter considers future developments in
in-flight medical care.
