Gender Equity Policies in Kenya (Paperback)

Despite the fact that development in sub Saharan Africa requires the full participation of both men and women, women representation in most sectors in Kenya is characterized by low rates. Specifically women continue to be underrepresented in educational management especially at higher levels. Unfortunately also, studies on gender participation in tertiary educational management have concentrated at the university level. Middle level colleges especially the Public Primary Teacher Training Colleges which train the bulk of primary teachers in the country who in turn interact with children during their formative years have not been dealt with systematically.Efforts put in place to mitigate against gender disparities do not seem adequate. This descriptive survey study is, therefore, an important first step to provide a critical look at the factors that influence the implementation of gender equity policies. Implications for policy makers, employment agencies, scholars and women are made.
