Excerpt: ... BIBLIOGRAPHICAL APPENDIX. BIBLIOGRAPHICAL APPENDIX. This Appendix contains as complete a list as I have been able to make of the books written, edited, or printed, by Etienne Dolet. The list given by M. Boulmier, the most complete which has up to this time appeared, contains (in addition to the four books written by Dolet and printed by Sebastian Gryphius) fifty-three books as printed by Dolet; the present list contains eighty-three, besides three of which he was the editor for other printers. Some of these have never appeared in any catalogue, and have been up to this time wholly unknown. I do not suppose that this list is complete, but it is at least much more so than any which has yet appeared. In each case in which I am able to refer to an existing copy I have done so; in all other cases I give the authority upon which I insert the title of the book, with such descriptions and details as I have been able to obtain respecting it. Of the eighty-four books printed by Dolet I have seen and examined fifty-one, including all those referred to as in public libraries (except four books which are in those of Bordeaux, Orleans, and Roanne respectively). Of eighteen of the remainder, I am able to refer to a copy as now or lately existing, while fifteen have totally disappeared, and I have been able to discover no trace of any recently existing copy. The abbreviations, Bib. Nat., Brit. Mus., and R. C. C, respectively after the description of any book, indicate that a copy is in the Bibliotheque Nationale, the British Museum, or in my own possession. In all cases where I have been able to do so, I refer to sale catalogues in which copies of the books have appeared, with their numbers, and the prices at which they were sold.
