Letter from the battlefields of Paraguay is an account of the
travels of Capt. Burton to the battlegrounds of the Paraguayan war
in 1868 and 1869. It was written in the last days of his consulship
in Santos, Brazil. Using his poignant style he does an excellent
job in describing the terrain, the guns and the leaders of the
largest conflict of South America. This edition is fully
illustrated and annotated in order to improve the reading of the
text of Capt. Burton that makes extensive use of Latin, French,
Spanish and Portuguese quotations and expressions.
