In this examination of Mark's Gospel in the light of sociological and literary method, the text of Mark is examined against the background of the Jewish War as experienced in Galilee. McFarlane simultaneously explores methodological issues and locates the narrative in its social and historical setting. In considering two sociological and two literary methods the work concludes that these are complementary rather than capable of being combined into one super-method.
