Fireheart, S. J. Berryas first novel, was published last year. Uncertain Heritage looks at the story from another direction and tells how the situation in Fireheart came to pass and the end result. Unhappy after the death of his beloved wife, Captain Rob Stevens sails for America in the last years of the revolution. He has always been drawn to anything from the American colonies and finally decides to try to find out why. He is wounded and left for dead on the battlefield at Yorktown, where two women rescue him and save his life. The war is over and England lost but he has discovered that he is the long-lost son of Amanda Beacon. As he struggles to build some sort of life for himself, he begins to recover his health and encourages his mother to go to England to bring his young son to America. He is strangely drawn to his adopted sister, Megan, and they journey into the wilderness of northern Georgia to make an astonishing discovery. He begins to find his place in the world and awaits his motheras return with his son, hoping to rebuild the shattered family into one.
