Children from 6 to 9 years old are the target readership for this
homegrown book about vegetable gardening. They will learn about
planning a garden, types of soil and preparation, planting, pruning
and most importantly harvesting, and enjoying their own, healthy
vegetables, herbs and salad. Also included are craft projects
linked to gardening and easy recipes using the fresh produce they
have grown. This is a great way to get kids off the couch and into
the garden, and a great way to learn about nature, ecology, and
healthy living. Divided in two parts, part one teaches them how to
prepare the soil, sow the seeds and care for their plants. It also
covers recycling, the seasons, insects and birds in the garden and
the cycles of natural life. The second part will encourage children
to delight in eating their harvest. Each vegetable is shown on a
double page spread, combining information with beautiful
photographs, illustrations, and simple recipes. Growing their own
vegetables will make children proud to be self-sufficient, even in
this small way. They will want to try new vegetables and tastes
when they’ve been involved in the planting and have watched their
vegetables grow!
