I am in receipt of so many inquiries concerning the effect and operation of prohibition in Kansas, and being unable to supply the demand for documents on the subject (the supply being exhausted), I have concluded to make an extract from manuscript now in my possession, and as near as possible answer the main questions submitted by the inquiring public. From the substance and tone of the many communications received, it is evident that gross misrepresentations are being made, as to the condition of things in this State; particularly as to the extent to which the law is being enforced, and the result of its enforcement in diminishing the sale and use of liquors in this State. Great misapprehension seems to exist as to the effect of the enforcement of the law upon the business interests and material prosperity of the State. In order to briefly answer these questions, addressed to our citizens and State departments, this brief extract is submitted. It is compiled from reliable sources, and is as full as a paper of this kind will permit. A few words explanatory of the manner and source of information, perhaps is permissible at this time, that the reader may understand and may be safe in relying on the facts produced. I have resided in Kansas for about twenty-one years; I am now forty-one years old; I became a voter on Kansas soil, and learned to love her institutions early in my own manhood, as well as in their infancy. Before the name prohibition was applied to the crusade against the use of intoxicants as a beverage, I was for temperance. I neither chew, smoke, nor drink, and never have, and I am a constitutional prohibitionist; as a partisan, I am a Republican. All Republicans in Kansas arc prohibitionists.
