Contra-Indications | Safe to use in pregnancy and breastfeeding (although pregnant woman should only take one softgel capsule daily). Anticoagulant/ Antiplatelet medicines: Fish oils may have anticoagulant effects that may increase the chance of bleeding. Individuals using any of the following medications: aspirin; clopidogrel; dalteparin; enoxaparin; heparin; warfarin; nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as diclofenac, ibuprofen, and naproxen, should use with caution. Anti-hypertensives: Omega-3 may lower blood pressure and add to the effects of medicines that lower blood pressure. Hypoglycaemic agents: Fish oil supplements may lower blood sugar levels slightly, use with caution with diabetic medications. Vitamin E: Fish oils can reduce vitamin E levels. The mechanism is unknown, but might result from reduced vitamin E absorption or increased vitamin E utilization by tissues to reduce free radicals and prevent peroxidative damage. Cholesterol: High doses of fish oils can increase low-density lipoproteins (LDL) in some individuals and may need to be monitored in some people. |
