Pages: 28. Chapters: Romani people, Slovaks, Hungarians in
Slovakia, Rusyns, Lemkos, Carpathian Germans, Roma in Slovakia,
Croats in Slovakia, Serbs of Slovakia, Baemi. Excerpt: The Romani
(also Romany, Romanies, Romanis, Roma or Roms; exonym: Gypsy;
Romani: Romane or Rromane, depending on the dialect) are an ethnic
group living mostly in Europe, who trace their origins to the
Indian Subcontinent. The Romani are widely dispersed, with their
largest concentrated populations in Europe, especially the Roma of
Central and Eastern Europe and Anatolia, followed by the Iberian

by Portugal during the colonial era and via more recent migrations,
some people have gone to the Americas and, to a lesser extent,

Romanichal) do not use this term as a self-ascription for the
entire ethnic group. Sometimes, rom and romani are spelled with a
double r, i.e., rrom and rromani. In this case rr is used to
represent the phoneme (also written as and rh), which in some
Romani dialects has remained different from the one written with a
single r. The rr spelling is common particularly in Romania, in
order to distinguish from the endonym for Romanians (...
