Such, however, is not the case. Wherever the name of the ship is given, the observations are those which were actually taken, and have not been altered in any way whatsoever. In many instances (of which this is one) the stars were observed and calculated in the presence of the officers of the vessel, who can answer for the perfect honesty of the work. This is mentioned to dispel any doubts as to what stars are really capable of.
