Memoir of John Lothrop Motley (Electronic book text)


Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. (1809 1894) was an American physician, professor, lecturer and author. Holmes wrote his first book of essays entitled "The Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table in 1831. While in medical training Holmes was able to write another two essays detailing life as seen from his boarding house breakfast table. John Lothrop Motley (1814 1877) was a Harvard graduate and historian. After traveling in Europe he returned to America to finish his legal studies. Motley was the United States Minister to Austria, 1861-67, and the United States Minister to England, 1869-70.
