Sometimes God gives me ideas when I am in my bed. That's when He
gave me the idea for this book. I wanted to write a book that would
teach children that a developing baby in the womb is not just a
piece of tissue but a human-created and formed in God's image. I
wanted children to know that they were created special, even in
their mother's womb (see Psalm 139:13b). The names Dayspring and
Harah (pronounced haw-raw) are both from the Bible. Harah is a
Hebrew word that means "to be or become pregnant, conceive."
Dayspring is used in the New Testament (Luke 1:76-79) to describe
Jesus as a light to a dark world. It means "the dawn." This story
shows that even in the womb, babies are functional human beings and
not simply a glob of tissue. To emphasize the fact that unborn
babies are fully human from conception, I exaggerate certain
aspects and actions of Dayspring. She talks and eats; she
experiences feelings such as disgust, excitement, dizziness, and
even smugness. Also, she is already developing her talent of
gymnastics. Children who understand the value of life in a mother's
womb will grow into adults who appreciate the lives of their own
children. This, dear readers, is what I hope to accomplish with
this book. -Indya A Rennie
